To connect students with sports, games periods to be mandatory in schools by next year

New Delhi, August 7: One period will be made mandatory in schools which will be liked by almost all students that is of games. Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore said that a games period will be made mandatory in schools by next year on Monday.


 

And also in order to lessen the burden from the shoulders of the students, the Education Ministry will ensure that the syllabus is reduced by 50 percent by next year.

The Minister said the ministry is planning several things to make sports more relevant. Rathore said he is ensuring that Sports Authority of India (now SI) reduces its manpower by 50 percent by 2022 so that they can cater to sports and it has a lean body and money is spent on sports.

He said this year the government will have 20 specialized sports schools and will pump about seven to 10 crore rupees each. The idea is to have a very pointed approach so each school will have only two or three main sports. They will be much focused.
