Panaji, August 7: Fish ban had led to disruption in fish flow in the state but on August 3 this ban was lifted and again the markets are full of fishes as 94 trucks entered the state on Sunday. Also, the fishes cleared all the tests of the FDA.

The easy to use on the spot testing kit of the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) was used by the officials. 73 trucks from Karnataka and 21 trucks from Maharashtra entered the state.

On the first day after lifting the ban, 17 trucks entered the state which was tested and cleared by ‘Safe for consumption.’

As a precaution to protect the health of the state’s citizens, Goa had banned the import of fishes from the neighboring states for 15 days. This information was given by CM Manohar Parrikar in a press conference on July 18.

Notably, despite assurances by the Goa government and the state’s Food and Drug Administration that citizens need not be afraid of eating fish in the wake of a formalin scare, residents were not taking any chances and were keeping off the staple.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had assured the Assembly that the Goa govt will not allow fish or any food item using preservatives that are not permitted by law to be consumed by Goans and all mechanism for testing fish will be put in place before lifting the ban on fish import on July 23.
