Congress filed senior leader BK Hariprasad for Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman poll

New Delhi, Aug 8: After rounds of deliberations, setting all the speculative reports aside, apex leadership Congress has cleared the desk for Senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad.

The Senior Congress leader from Karnataka will be the candidate for Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman. He will contest against JD(U)Harivansh Narayan Singh, BJP backed NDA Candidate.

Speaking to the media, BK Hariprasad claimed that his party along with other UPA partner would be able to get the required numbers. As quoted by ANI, Hariprasad admitted,"We could not reach on a consensus with the central government in this regard but we do have the support of the opposition parties".

Earlier, NDA announced the candidature of JD(U)leader Harivansh Narayan Singh for the post of Deputy Chairman. Rajya Sabha deputy chairman’s post fell vacant after the after the retirement of Congress leader PJ Kurien.

The election will take place on August 9.
