RBI welcomes Economist S Gurumurthy and Satish Marathe as newly appointed part-time directors on central board

New Delhi, August 8: Reining the director’s chair of the apex bank, the appointment committee of the government on Tuesday appointed journalist and an affiliate of RSS, Swaminath Gurumurthy and Satish Marathe patron of Sahakar Bharathi as part-time directors for the Reserve Bank of India’s central board for four years.

Swaminathan Gurumurthy is the editor of the Thuglak magazine and co-convener of the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. S Gurumurthy is a well-known chartered accountant, political and economic writer of the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch. The newly appointed director is a vocal supporter of the RSS and BJP. The director addressed it as the first directorship ever handed by the Reserve Bank of India.

Satish Marathe is the patron of Sahakar Bharati an NGO furthering the co-operative moment in India.

The names were approved on Tuesday as per provisions of Section 8 1C of the RBI Act, 1934 by the Central government led Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. With the two new appointments, the total number of government-appointed directors on the RBI board has reached 10.
