Rajya Sabha set for consideration, passing of SC/ST Amendment bill

New Delhi, August 8: A constitutional amendment bill to restore the original provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act is all set for consideration and passing in the Rajya Sabha today.

 

Notably, the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act which was tabled by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot in Lok Sabha was passed by the voice of vote on Monday.

Last week, Narendra Modi led BJP government at centre decided to overturn the ruling of the apex court order on SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. To stop misuse of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe act, the Supreme Court on March 20 this year said that there shall be no immediate arrest in cases lodged under SC/ST Act against public servants.

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Second Amendment) Bill 2018, Homoeopathy Central Council (Amendment) Bill 2018 and The Commercial Courts, Commercial Division and Commercial Appellate Division of High Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2018 are also scheduled to become up for consideration and passing in the House.

While in the Lok Sabha, The Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Bill 2018, The Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill 2017 and The Arbitration and Conciliation (Amendment) Bill 2018 are listed for consideration and passing.

The Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2018, The Integrated Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2018, The Union Territory Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill 2018 and The Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Amendment Bill 2018 are also scheduled to become up for consideration and passing in the House.
