Jerusalem, August 9: Israel has launched fresh airstrikes on Gaza after dozens of rockets were fired from the enclave into its territory. The Gazan Health Ministry said, a Palestinian was killed, while at least six were wounded in raids aimed to target sites across the strip.

Israeli Police and Army said the strikes came after at least two of dozens of rockets launched from the coastal enclave hit the Israeli town of Sderot, near Gaza. One person was wounded, while several others were treated for shock.

The escalation comes after the Hamas leadership convened for a rare meeting in Gaza on Friday.

The gathering had raised hopes a deal for a lasting truce with Israel, with the backing of Egypt and the United Nations.

In June this year, The Hamas targeted Israeli civilians by launching 45 rockets towards Israel. Israeli Army has said, its fighter jets hit 25 targets in the Gaza Strip early today in response to rocket fire from the Palestinian territory.

An Incident occurred at Gaza-Israel border on May 14th during demonstrations against the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem. At least 55 Palestinians had killed and more than 2400 wounded by Israeli troops on the Gaza border, as mass protests erupted against the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem.

But the other side of the coin, the Israel Defense Forces said around 40,000 Gazans were demonstrating in 12 locations along the border at the riots’ peak. It said thousands more were gathered at points several hundred meters from the fence.

The Israel Defense Forces in a statement accused Hamas, which controls Gaza, of leading a terrorist operation and inciting protesters who had amassed by the border fence with Israel to conduct what Israel described as terror attacks.
