Sushma Swaraj all set to embark on a two day visit to Russia strengthening bilateral ties

New Delhi, September 10: Solidifying the rich base of bilateral relations between India and Russia, both the countries have mutually strengthened their diplomacy every time. With this, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will embark on a two-day visit to Russia next week to co-chair the IRIGC-TEC commission that discusses different aspects of the two countries’ bilateral ties.

Along with EAM Sushma Swaraj, Russia’s deputy Prime Minister, Yuri Borisov, will also co-chair the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) on September 13 and 14.

IRIGC-TEC is a standing body, which annually meets and reviews ongoing activities of bilateral cooperation in the fields of bilateral trade and investment, science and technology, culture and other issues of mutual interest. Its last meeting was held in December 2017.

The Union minister Sushma Swaraj’s upcoming visit comes close on the heels of the 2+2 dialogue with US and a month before Russian President Vladimir Putin’s October-scheduled visit to India.

According to the MEA statement, Sushma Swaraj would also take stock of bilateral cooperation in various fields and will provide policy recommendations and directions in the relevant fields

EAM Swaraj will also discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin's upcoming visit to India later this year. Prez Putin would be coming to India to attend the India-Russia Annual Summit later this year. The last meeting of the commission was held in New Delhi in December 2017.
