Panaji, September 10: With an aim to achieve zero unemployment in the next one or two years, the Employment Department of Goa has prepared a draft employment policy that will ensure jobs for every youth.

The draft employment policy document is ready and the same will be now placed before Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for approval. The draft is been formulated by Minister for Employment Rohan Khaunte.

Khaunte said that the draft is ready and would be placed before Chief Minister for approval.

Sources reveal that the draft policy document was ready long back but due to Chief Minister’s sudden visit to Mumbai and thereafter to USA for medical treatment delayed the finalisation of the policy. “The policy document will be now placed before Chief Minister by this week,” sources said.

It is most likely that the policy will be released post Ganesh Chaturthi festival. Before that, government is expected to clear the backlog of pending vacancies in various government departments.

Sources said that the policy will not only focus on employment in government sector but in private industrial sector to a large extent. “Government is aiming towards employment generation to its various projects like IT Park, Electronic City, Industrial Policy, etc,” sources said.

“Emphasis is also laid on creating more and more job providers through Startups,” sources added.

Parrikar during the Monsoon Session of the State Assembly, held last month, had assured to come out with employment policy by August end.

In his Independence Day video released from USA, Chief Minister had said this year, the government has planned a new action plan for employment for local youth involving affirmative action.

This includes providing incentives and subsidies to the industries, which give priority to employ locals.

“With this, I am hopeful that in the coming one or two years, there will be no unemployed youth in Goa,” he had said adding, ‘We will soon be announcing our employment policy, which will create the much-needed enthusiasm amongst our younger generation’.
