Young Indian shooters continue to make country proud; bags 24 medals at ISSF World Shooting Championships

Changwon, September 14: Young Indian shooters continued its strong run at the 52nd International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Shooting Championships which is being held in Changwon, South Korea as it added two more Gold on Thursday to take the overall tally to 24. 

Notably, a 16-year-old Udhayveer Singh firstly bagged a Gold Medal in Junior Men's 25 metre pistol event in the World Shooting Championships. Singh shot a score of 587 in the individual competition to grab the Gold ahead American Henry Leverett and Korean Lee Jaekyoon. While compatriot Vijayveer Sidhu finished fourth with a score of 581 and Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu took the 20th spot with a score of 568.

Later, in the day, the trio Udhayveer Singh, Vijayveer Sidhu and Rajkanwar Singh Sandhu combined score of 1736 fetched them the team Gold for India, followed by China, which totalled 1730. The bronze medal went to Team Korea, which shot a score of 1721.

Unfortunately, there were no medals for India in the 25 metre centre fire pistol event with Gurpreet Singh managing the 10th spot with a score of 581, followed by London Olympics silver medallist Vijay Kumar.

Importantly, India is placed fourth in the medals tally with a total of 24 medals including 9 Gold, 8 Silver and seven bronze medals. The tally is India's best performance in International Shooting Sports Federation's showpiece.
