Picking up the broom, PM Modi aims at fulfilling Bapu’s dream of Clean India; launches ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Movement’

New Delhi, September 15: Taking an oath to spread cleanliness in India by working on Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of Clean India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan in the year 2014. The mission has been one of the successful events in making India, a better place to reside and develop in all aspects.

Launching “Swachhata Hi Seva movement”, PM Modi aims at generating greater public participation towards Swachhta, which is being organized in the run-up to the fourth anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, on October 2nd, 2018, which will also mark the commencement of the 150th year celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.

In this perspective, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with a cross-section of people from 18 locations across the country, via video conferencing. PM Modi interacted with school-children, jawans, spiritual leaders, members of milk and agricultural cooperatives, media persons, local government representatives, railway employees, Self Help Groups, and Swachhagrahis, among others.

Interacting with the student who has come forward to take a major step in this initiative, PM Modi said that Youngsters are ambassadors of social change. The youth are at the forefront of a positive change in India and the way they have come forward with the message of cleanliness is commendable.

Apart from protecting the nation, the brave jawans have also contributed immensely in taking forward PM Modi’s efforts of Swachhta Abhiyaan. The border jawans have to be confronted by enemies, dealing with flood crisis, every time you put the country up. Now, your contribution to hygiene is making the country proud attributes PM Modi.

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been an active member of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and in his interaction with the Prime Minister, he shared his experience in cleaning streets and the beaches of Mumbai.

PM Modi also elaborated warm regards to the private sector units and the media groups to make this initiative such a grand event and spreading the message of cleanliness. Also, they have helped and inspired by exposing the contribution of people from every nook and corner.

Being thankful to the Barahamakumari Institute for their contribution as Swachhgrahis, PM Modi said that they are acting as a true example and are succeeding in re-establishing the prestige in India's world. A new confidence in the country's youth is visible because of this.

Attributing his thinking on Waste to Wealth PM Modi said, the people of Rajgarh have worked considerably on the Gobar-dhan scheme in their area. Mass awakening is a matter of cleanliness but the waste we generate is a huge snag of our way. Waste Management will have to make us more effective.

It has been a major achievement for India as we have been working on this and it is commendable that our country has performed immensely well in the upcoming 2 years. He further asserted that he is confident that over 22 crore mass will soon declare themselves free from defecation in the open.

The PM said that in the last four years, Swachhata had become a mass movement. “Nearly 9 crore toilets have been constructed in the last four years, around 4.5 lakh villages, 450 districts, and 20 states and union territories have been declared ODF.”

PM Modi also interacted with Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and congratulated the Swachhagrahis from Bijnor in UP, who are working on cleaning the Ganga said the virtue that these swachhagrahis are serving the Mother Ganga is the benefit of the country. The river Ganga is our culture, heritage, identity. PM Modi further said that we should not only limit ourselves from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar but we should change our mindset to bring change overall.

Interacting with Amritanandamayi from Kollam, Kerala, she thanked the Prime Minister for initiating such a large mass movement of swachhta and bringing cleanliness in the country. The villages in Kerala have been largely benefitted by this initiative by blessing the poor and the needy in the state.

PM Modi believes that Swachhata Hi Seva movement will give a new momentum, new energy to the Mission. Expressing happiness, PM Modi asserted that the experience of listening to the savachachagarahis and dedication of the people from all over the country has been phenomenal. The world is looking closer to this movement and believed this to be a major hit.

Appreciating the efforts taken by the people, PM Modi elaborated that whenever in future people will talk about this movement, the names of the workers will be written in Golden words! PM Modi said that the enthusiasm of India has been on a boom and continuing the work on accomplishing the dream of Swachh Bharat will always be on a peak.
