Indian Railways to deploy ‘Gate Mitras’ at 106 unmanned level crossings in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, September 17: The Indian Railways have always given its passengers utmost feasible sources. Apart from this, the railways have also worked to make things feasible for its workers. In this regard, the Indian Railways have decided to deploy ‘Gate Mitras’ or gate counselors at 106 unmanned level crossings in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

The railways will now deploy ‘Gate Mitras’ or gate counselors at 106 unmanned level crossings in UP. The railways will enlist the services of 400 ex-servicemen to man them. These crossings are located on the Lucknow-Kanpur, Lucknow-Varanasi and Lucknow-Prayag routes.

Divisional railway manager (DRM) Satish Kumar said that “In the Lucknow division of Northern Railways, there is 121 unmanned level crossings. Of these 15 crossings, which were not needed, have been closed down. Now, 106 unmanned level crossings are left”.

He said that on these 106 unmanned level crossings, hand-operated gates have been installed, and Gate Mitras will be deployed.

DRM Satish Kumar said that cabins will be constructed for the gatemen, which will also have toilet facilities. The deployment of Gate Mitras will be completed by September 30.
