Top Indian boxers Simranjit Kaur, Monika and Bhagyabati Kachari bags Gold at Ahmet Comert Tournament

Istanbul, September 17: Top Indian boxers Simranjit Kaur, Monika and Bhagyabati Kachari on Sunday put up an impressive show in their respective podium and bagged Gold medals at the Ahmet Comert Tournament which was held at Istanbul, Turkey. 

Simranjit Kaur was the first to claim Gold on the day after she defeated Turkey’s Sema Caliskan in the finals. Competing in the light fly category, Monika registered a comprehensive victory over Ayse Cagirer of Turkey and bagged a gold medal.

Another Indian boxer Bhagyabati clinched Gold after defeating Selma Karakoyun, who is also from the host nation, in the light heavyweight category. Bhagyabati was also adjudged as the most scientific boxer of the tournament.

On the other side, a former Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist Pinki Jangra had to settle with a silver medal as she lost to another local hope Busenaz Cakiroglu to sign off second in the tournament. World Championship silver medallist Sonia Lather (57kg) too, settled for a bronze. The Indian women’s team finished third in the tournament.
