New Delhi, Sept 18: Upholding the sanctity of the Constitution the RSS reiterated its full and firm faith in the statute that governs the country. Delivering the second lecture in the three-day lecture series here at Vigyan Bhavan Tuesday, RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohanrao Bhagwat said that his organisation has not violated the Constitution.

“We have not violated the Constitution or the law of the land at any point of time in our history of nine decades”, Bhagwat vouchsafed before the select audience drawn from all strata of the society.

Expressing high regards for the Constitution Dr. Bhagwat without mincing words said “We have accepted a Constitution. It is the consensus of our country. The RSS believes in it and to respect it is our foremost duty”.

Top leaders of our country made this constitution after much deliberation and debate, he said reading the Preamble of the Constitution which he described as “consensus of our society”.

He said that the RSS does not have political ambition contrary to the general perception created by some sections of the society. RSS is here to bring the society together rising above the party affiliation for the great national cause which the political parties could not accomplish due to their limitations.

“Since its birth the RSS has decided to stay away from active politics”, he said explaining that did not mean the organization would not express its views and opinions on the issues of national importance like security concerns.

He said that the swayamsevaks are free to join the party of their choice. They are citizens of the country and as such have the right to express them politically. So they join the party that welcomes them. “We do not ask our swayamsevaks to work for a particular party. They give priority to national interests and follow their own conscience in their daily life”, he added.

“We have our own views and opinions about the national issues and policies and the RSS expresses them from time to time as and when required”, Dr Bhagwat said denying that the Sangh issues directives to the BJP on running the government.

“The party today in power have RSS swayamsevaks at top positions but that does not mean they take orders from us”, he said adding, “they are experts in their field and we do not control them. The perception created by some political leaders and the media that the government is run from Nagpur (the HQ of RSS) is wrong and unfounded, he reiterated.

“The government is run by the Constitution. To think of another power centre is wrong”, he said.

On issue of empowerment of women the Sarasanghchalak said that the Sangh believes that women are members of the society and are equal partners in the nation building activities. They are more efficient than their male counterparts in many fields. They should be empowered made competent to handle situations. This is possible not by their deification. This is possible by awakening their inherent capabilities through “Matrushakti Jagarana”, he added. Men and women are complimentary to each other and they should have equal importance and role in the life of a family and the nation as well, he added.

Dealing with the concept of Hindutva as envisaged and practiced by the RSS, Dr. Bhagwat said that the concept of Hindutva is mired in confusion. We need to look at it removing the veil of confusion.

Clarifying that the name Hindu is given by the outsiders, mostly people from Iran who called people living on the other side of the Sindhu River as Hindu and the land as ‘Hind’, Dr. Bhagwat said that this word which has now become ‘our national identity’ is in vogue from 9th century onwards and was later included into religious texts of various saints. Now it is associated with our national identity. Even Muslims from India going to perform Haj are registered there as ‘Hindvi Muslims’.

Stating unequivocally that for the RSS the term Hindu includes people of various religious sects and hues who belong to this land, Dr. Bhagwat said that for RSS the words Bharat, Hindusthan or India are synonyms. “We are not opposed to those who use India, Bharat etc. because we know that they also mean what we understand”, he said.

It is wrong to equate Dharma with religion, he said adding that though religion is commonly used to refer to dharma this is wrong and leading to confusion. Dharma is for the entire universe. It is for all. All the spiritual sects in India, their philosophy is for the entire humanity.

He said that the Hindutva concept of RSS is taking all the diversities, respecting and celebrating them. There is a space for all because we believe that Dharma is for the entire universe, for all. This universal character of Dharma is preached by all the spiritual sects in India in their philosophy and literature.

Dharma is the set of values that are eternal. Code changes according to changing time and its requirements, he added referring to Hindu Code drafted by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. The Western concept of nation-state is not applicable to India. Ours is the cultural nation, he explained.

This Hindutva concept is not confined to language, religion, province etc. It transcends all these barriers, he said reiterating that this universal Dharma called Hindu Dharma is evolved and developed in Bharat. Our religious leaders go to different parts of the world and preach these eternal values. They do not convert. We accept all faiths as true ways to realise the ultimate Supreme Reality.

This cultural life is known as Hindutva, Dr. Bhagwat stressed. This is our identity. Many accept it, some don’t. Maybe because of material considerations or political correctness, he said. We want to consolidate all these under the umbrella identity of Hindutva, he added.

Quoting from Rabindranath Tagore and Veer Sawarkar to explain the true meaning of Independence, Dr. Bhagwat said that the RSS is working to create the Bharat of their dreams where all are equal and live with homogeneity respecting and celebrating diversities without fear.

On this Occasion, Union Minister Uma Bharti, Prakash Javadekar, Jitendra Singh, Kiren Rijiju Giriraj Singh, MP Parvesh Verma, K. C. Tyagi , Ex-Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag, Classical dancer Sonal Mansingh, Chairman of the Essel Group Subhash Chandra, NCW Chief Lalitha Kumaramangalam, BJP Overseas-cell in-charge Vijay Chauthaiwale, Journalist Ved Prakash Vaidik , Nistula Hebbar, Kartikeya Sharma and other dignitaries were present.
