PM Modi and Afghan Prez Ashraf Ghani discuss ways to enhance security cooperation boosting mutual ties

New Delhi, September 19: With an aim to discuss security cooperation with India the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi proved to be fruitful with boosting cooperation and mutual ties.

 

The meeting also ticked the agenda on the request to expedite work on various India-supported infrastructure projects, including the Chabahar Port. It is understood that Ghani briefed Modi about the status of the peace process in the war-ravaged country.

MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted saying, "Strategic partners and a valued neighbour! PM @narendramodi warmly received President of Afghanistan, @ashrafghani at the Hyderabad House ahead of the bilateral talks.

Regional security, trade and India's development work in Afghanistan are among the issues that were discussed during President Ghani's one day visit. India has always been favoring an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process to bring peace and stability to that country.

India has also been actively involved in reconstruction efforts in war-ravaged Afghanistan. Since 2002, India has committed USD 2 billion for the socio-economic development of the country.
