Union Minister Rajnath Singh attends 28th edition of the Southern Zonal Council

Bengaluru, Sept 19: After the gap of two years, Union Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday chaired the meeting of the Southern Zonal Council here.  The 28th edition of Southern Zonal Council was attended by Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister of Puducherry V. Narayanasamy, O. Panneerselvam, Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Y.R. Krishnudu, Finance Minister Andhra Pradesh, Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and senior officials were present.

As quoted by ANI, the long pending issue of Pulicat lake dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu was raised by the concerned state. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Y.R. Krishnudu submitted the proposal of special tourism train circuit in order to boost the emerging sector of tourism. The Minister also expressed displeasure over the non-fulfillment of provisions under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The Council also deliberated on important subjects like Police modernization, development of the Biofuel driven ecosystem and red sander smuggling. During this meeting, states urged the central government to clear the desk for crucial issues pertaining to the welfare of the states. Zonal Council is the platform which addresses the issues faced by the Southern states.
