Uttar Pradesh promises to clear sugarcane farmers dues by November end with a special policy

Lucknow, September 25: With the central government promising to double sugarcane farmer’s income, the Uttar Pradesh government today said that all dues of sugarcane farmers in the state will be cleared by the end of November this year. The state government has come up with a policy to clear the dues of sugarcane farmers, under which it will provide soft loan to sugar factories so that they can pay the farmers.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said after the cabinet meeting held in Lucknow today, that around Rs. 887 crores of sugarcane farmers in the state are due on government-run factories and this money will be sent directly in the accounts of farmers by the government.

The Chief Minister further said that for the rest of around 8,880 crores rupees' dues, which is pending on private sugarcane factories, the government will provide a loan at 5 percent interest to those factories who have already cleared minimum 30 percent of the dues.

The factories which will avail soft Loan under the scheme have to clear all dues by 30 November this year. This move of government will benefit around 40 lakh sugarcane farmers of the state.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that government will also provide an additional subsidy of Rs. 4.5 per quintal of sugarcane to the sugar factories. It will be a 500 crores burden on the exchequer.
