New York, September 26: Lauding India for yet another success story of emerging out of poverty at a considerable rate, United States President Donald Trump praised India for this exceptional win. US President Donald Trump said, “There is India, a free society of over a billion people, lifting millions of people out of poverty into the middle class.”

Addressing his opening speech at the 73rd United Nations General Assembly, Prez Trump mentioned India praising the country’s efforts to lift people “out of poverty into the middle class.” Trump also exchanged pleasantries with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sidelines of a high-level event on counter-narcotics at the UNGA headquarters in New York. Donald Trump told EAM Sushma Swaraj to give his regards to his “friend” Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He had reportedly said, “I love India, give my regards to my friend PM Modi.”

However, Prez Trump’s statement came in the wake of the 2018 global Multidimensional Poverty Index report that stated that over 270 million people in India, that is, about half of the population has moved out of poverty since a decade. The report was released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative.

Further, in his speech, Trump added, "The US has launched an economic pressure campaign to deny Iran the money it needs to advance a bloody agenda of havoc and slaughter in Syria and Yemen."

Speaking on the issue of the threat of the nuclear crisis from Noth Korea, Trump said that missiles and rockets were "no longer flying in every direction in North Korea." He asserted that Nuclear testing has "stopped" and that some military facilities "were already being dismantled." Trump had met North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June in Singapore, and the two leaders are reportedly planning to meet again “soon.”
