Moment to rejoice! PM Modi gets UN's highest environment honour 'Champions of the Earth' award

New Delhi, September 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi once quoted, “Let us live in harmony with nature and keep our beloved Earth clean and green.” Implying on creating a better environment and clean planet, UN Environment has awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the United Nations' highest environmental honour for his leadership of the International Solar Alliance and pledge to eliminate single-use plastic in India by 2022.

 

PM Modi’s contribution in creating change with taking a stand to curb pollution, his bold environmental leadership on the global stage has garnered immense attention and applause. Under PM Modi’s leadership, India pledged to eliminate all single-use plastics in the country by 2022. Prime Minister Modi also supports and champions the International Solar Alliance, a global partnership to scale up solar energy.

 

Six of the world's most outstanding environmental change-makers have been recognized with the Champions of the Earth Award, the UN's highest environmental honor. The UN Environment Programme quoted, "This year's laureates are recognized for a combination of bold, innovative, and tireless efforts to tackle some of the most urgent environmental issues of our times."

 

French President Emmanuel Macron and PM Modi have been jointly recognised in the Policy Leadership category for their pioneering work in championing the International Solar Alliance and promoting new areas of levels of cooperation on environmental action, including Macron's work on the Global Pact for the Environment and PM Modi's unprecedented pledge to eliminate all single-use plastic in India by 2022.

 

Cochin International Airport has also been awarded for Entrepreneurial Vision, for its leadership in the use of sustainable energy.
