Assam to honor Hima Das, announces cash prize of Rs 1.60 Cr for her exemplary performance

Guwahati, September 5: Indian athletes at the Asian Games 2018 soared high with gifting India its best. With Hima Das winning gold for the country, Assam state government announced an award of Rs 1.60 crore awards to an ace sprinter.

Hima, who is popularly known as the ‘Dhing Express’, won three medals including a gold and two silvers in the recently concluded Asian Games 2018 held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Assam Government has organized a grand function on September 7 at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati to acknowledge Das for her success.

 

Clinching the gold medal at in the 400 m finals at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships, the 18-year-old Indian sprinter Hima Das scripted a history. Hima Das has become first Indian to win Gold in a track event. 

Hima Das clocked an Indian U-20 record of 51.32 seconds to finish sixth in the Commonwealth Games 400m final in Gold Coast in April. Since then, she has gone onto improving her timings. She lowered the Indian U-20 record in 400m to 51.13 seconds while winning gold in the recent National Inter-State Championships in Guwahati.
