Thanks to demonetization! Fake currency influx drops through Indo-Bangladesh border

New Delhi, September 7: When Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced demonetization in India; the whole country was on a standstill. But this demonetization has been a boon for the country as the influx of fake currency has dipped considerably.

 

Leading a meeting on border management, BSF and Border Guards Bangladesh took a check on the border management system running between countries. DG of BSF K K Sharma said that following demonetization, there has been a drop in fake currency influx through the Indo-Bangladesh border. He also lauded Bangladesh for taking steps to prevent smuggling and influx of such fake currency notes.

Briefing the media, DG KK Sharma said that the smuggling of fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) has come down considerably after demonetization. The quality also is not good so they can be easily detected. Mostly, it is seen that Bangladeshi territory is being used as a transit and this year, the seizure was 11 lakhs only.

Speaking on the Rohingya infiltration, BSF DG said that BSF has got a major success in preventing the influx of Rohingya infiltrators. He further said that a large number of Rohingya refugees are present at the Indo-Bangladesh border and they try to enter India from time to time, but every time, their efforts go in vain.

BGB DG Mohammad Shafinul Islam said that Bangladesh government has installed detecting machines as well as heightened vigilance at the border to prevent the influx of fake currency.
