Narcotics Control Bureau conducts back-to-back operations in JK and Punjab; arrested three with 60 kg of heroin

Jammu, September 7: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested at least three drug peddlers and sized approximately 60 kg heroin in two different raids in Handwara, Kashmir.

 

On Wednesday, the Narcotics Control Bureau (Jammu Zone) conducted back-to-back operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab and seized around 38kg of heroin from the house of a resident in Handwara, Kashmir.

The agency immediately arrested the owner in connection with drug peddling and registered a case. The house of accused was searched following which unaccounted cash of Rs 5 lakh was recovered. Intensifying the investigation process, the NCB conducted a follow-up raid in Jalandhar and arrested a person who revealed that he was the receiver of the drugs.

Following this, the NCB back-to-back operations in Kashmir and Punjab and tracked a car containing Rs 17. 5 lakh unaccounted cash and as well as 22.15 kg of heroin. Immediately, the driver and his aide were arrested and the case was registered.

The investigation agency confirmed the arrests and seizure of heroin by releasing a statement on Thursday in NCB office in R.K. Puram. Deputy Director-General (Operations) Narcotics Control Bureau, S.K. Jha said, “This is the biggest seizure of heroin this year by any agency in India and seized drug is worth several crore in the international market.”

Earlier, in August this year, continuing its high voltage efforts against drug trafficking and narco-terrorism, the Jammu and Kashmir police seized 51 kilograms of high-grade Afghan-origin heroin worth over Rs 250 crore from a Punjab-bound truck and immediately arrested the driver and his helper both.

According to the official figure, 64 kilograms of charas, 7.5 kilograms of charas powder, 194 kilograms of bhang and bhang dust, 925 kilograms of fukki, 915 kilograms of poppy straw and 3.75 kilograms of brown sugar were seized in the year 2016 from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly, in the year 2015 police had registered 375 cases and arrested 442 people and 13 others have been booked under PSA.

Importantly, Pakistan uses terrorism and drugs as a primary tool to exploit youth of Jammu and Kashmir and disturb the stability of the country.
