Bihar all set to ban plastic in rural areas

Patna, September 8: With plastic ban giving strong environmental protection message, the state of Bihar has decided to pass the plastic ban resolution in the rural areas as well. The state government has decided all types of plastic bags, irrespective of size and thickness in the rural areas.

The government on August 12 had uploaded a draft notification to the State Pollution Control Board website banning manufacture, import, store, transport, sale and use of plastic carry bags in urban areas of the state. In this regard, the Patna High Court had regulated the ban to rural areas as well.

Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar informed that the draft notification will be available on the public domain within few days. Public views would be invited before finally banning plastic in rural areas as well.

The plastic ban in rural areas of Bihar come into the limelight when news of pollution in Lotus pond at Mahabodhi temple in Bodhgaya was highlighted. Plastic usage by visitors created plastic pollution in the pond. The committee thereby took measures to ban plastic in the areas and planned to ban plastic inside the temple.

The plastic ban has been swaying its most of the states with the idea of combatting pollution caused by plastic to save the environment.
