Dehradun, September 8: Uttarakhand has found a new way to stop migration from the hilly villages. It will use solar energy and Pirul leaves (tree) to produce electricity and give to people at a subsidized rate in order to create small-scale industries and employment.

Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) has imposed a duty, capacity and registration policy for power supply from renewable energy sources and fuel-based co-producers.

Under the new policy, you will get the benefits on the first come, first served basis. All projects will get 70 percent subsidy to benefit from the central government. It can be applied from today.

In order to overcome the shortage of electricity in the small-scale industries of the mountains, the UERC has created a policy of power generation based on Pirul, in addition to solar energy. On Friday, the Commission revised and implemented a new policy. Project-based on solar energy and Pirul is considered important in preventing migrations and increasing employment in the mountain. The ability of grid interactive roof and small solar PV projects, especially solar energy, has been revised in this policy.

Keeping in view the employment of local people in Pirul Power Generation Policy, the Commission has decided to sell 1.5 lakh rupees per kg per kilo per kiloliter. One person can collect 300-400 kg per pirul (pine leaves) daily. This can generate income of five thousand to six thousand per month.
