Karnataka leaders request center to include Tulu language in the 8th schedule of the constitution

New Delhi, Jan 10: Karnataka MP Shobha Karandlaje and Nalinkumar Kateel has requested Union Home Minister Rajnath Sigh to include Tulu language in the 8th schedule of the constitution. The BJP lawmakers on Tuesday called the Union Minister and submitted a memorandum for the long pending demand.

In an official letter, recounting the historical background of Tulu language, Shobha Karandlaje said that Oldest inscriptions in Tula are from the period between 14th and 15th centuries AD but still the ancient language is not included. 

Senior BJP leader and former Minister Shobha Karandlaje who hails from Tulu family represent Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha. The official number of Tulu speaking citizens is  6 Million. At present, there are demands for inclusion of 38 more languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution.
