Vedanta group to resume Sterlite work; assures clean environment in Tuticorin

Chennai, Jun 10: Days after SC’s green signal, Vedanta group has assured that world-class environmental standards will be maintained for the new Sterlite plant in Tuticorin of Tamil Nadu. 
 
In an official release, Vedanta group said that the international firm will fulfill all the necessary process for the re-opening of the Sterlite plant.

Earlier on Tuesday, the apex court had revoked the order Tamil Nadu government’s plea challenging National Green tribunal’s clearance for Sterlite plant in Tuticorin. 

Last year, the violent protest against the Vedanta group’s Sterlite plant had claimed the lives of 13 people. Anticipating the law and order problem, the state government passed a closure order against the Vedanta group.
 
On December 15, the National Green Tribunal rejected the Tamil Nadu government's close order on Vedanta group’s copper plant. Later, the state government moved to SC and filed a petition challenging NGT order.
