Saviours on rescue: Air Force saves Mumbai Engineer slipped into icy river in Ladakh

Mumbai, January 14: An engineer from Mumbai had a miraculous escape from the freezing waters of the Zanskar river in Ladakh, when the ice sheet beneath his feet broke and he plunged into the waters below. Luckily for him, the team of 7 members of the IAF, led by Wing Commander Vikrant Uniyal, which happened to be close by, saw him fall and immediately came to his rescue. They used their ropes and safety equipment to pull Sagar out of the icy waters and rescue him.


 

“Sagar” an engineer from Mumbai was on his return journey from Chadar trek when he met with an accident wherein ice broke & he went inside chilled water. There was no help available close by for his rescue.

However, IAF team from AFS Thoise, were on their way back after completing Chadar trek. This team of 07 members lead by Wg Cdr Vikrant Uniyal immediately used their rope & safety equipment to rescue this individual & saved him in time. Sagar narrated his story & thanked IAF.

 
 

"We had to cross a patch and it wasn't clear if it was completely frozen or not. Four or five people had already crossed before me. But when I stepped on it, the ice broke and my foot went through. Immediately, I fell into the ice," the engineer can be heard saying on the video. "The commanding officers of the air force came and threw me a rope and rescued me from the ice," he added.
