Daughters of India reaching glorious heights: Kumar becomes first ever lady IPS officer to reach South Pole

January 15: Adding another feather to her hat, UP Cadre IPS officer Aparna Kumar reached South Pole, unfurling flag of India there. She is the First ever Lady IPS officer to achieve this feat. She has already scaled highest Peaks of 6 continents out of 7.

 

Aparna kumar, IPS, DIG, Frontier HQ ITBP Dehradun successfully reached at South Pole on 13th January, 2019. She started her 111 mile trek to South Pole on January 4, 2019 with a 10 member expedition team. It was a grave challenge for her to do snow trekking and snow skiing in -40 degrees, for which she stood up like a true inspiration.

 

The brisk pace at which Aparna Kumar has done the six of the Seven Summits (climbing the highest peaks of seven continents) is just startling. It is even remarkable that the lady from Bengaluru, who is mother of two, has been consistently achieving success in climbing these heights which no other Person in the esteemed bureaucracy of India has ever done.

In January 2016, Aparna Kumar had become the country's first civil servant to scale Mount Vinson Massif.

Her next Goal will be Mount Denali in Alaska, for which she will leave in July 2019.

In March 2015, she was conferred the ‘Rani Lakshmi Bai Puraskar' by former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for her achievements and for being the role model to women. She was also awarded a special DGP Commendation Disc for her achievements in 2016.

Kumar’s Glorious reach at South Pole has surely made her an inspiration for all women in India. It has also brought the explorer's Grand Slam within her sights now.
