Poonch, January 17: Giving a befitting reply to the unprovoked ceasefire violation by the Pakistani troops, the Indian Army retaliated strongly as the troops exchanged gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Thursday.

Massive retaliation by the Indian troops was given the same day when Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat announced that the Army won’t hesitate from taking strong action against inimical designs of Pakistan on the LoC. Seven posts and bunkers of Pakistan army have been destroyed in retaliation by the Indian side overnight.

The Indian retaliation against Pakistan army was necessitated as it was targeting forward posts of the troops and also pounding civilian areas with a view to causing casualties. The Indian Army disclosed that Qus post of Pakistan has been completely destroyed and at least three Pakistani troops were killed and two others injured inside it.

Pakistan troopers used small arms and automatics to target Indian positions in Khari Karmara area. The Indian Army effectively retaliated to the unprovoked ceasefire violation. It was informed that the firing exchanges started at around 4.30 a.m. and continued till 6.30 a.m. No casualty or damage was reported from India's side.

At least five Pakistan army personnel were killed and three others were seriously injured when the Indian troops undertook major retaliatory action to silence the enemy guns on the LoC, which had been targeting forward posts of Army and civilian areas in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.

Ceasefire violations by Pakistan Army have been intermittently continuing on the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts since earlier this month. On Tuesday, an officer of the Border Security Force was martyred in cross-border firing in Hiranagar-Samba sector in Kathua.

India on Wednesday summoned a Pakistan High Commission official to lodge its protest against the death of an Indian civilian in unprovoked firing in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sunderbani on January 11.
