Nagpur, Jan 2: Emphasizing the need to overhaul the entire education system of India to make it knowledge-centric, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarkaryawah Suresh alias Bhayyaji Joshi said that the present education system has lost its real goal of identifying and honing the potential qualities of students.

Teachers are expected to teach in 35 minutes and the students are expected to obtain 35 percent marks to clear the examination. In such a system how we can impart the education that is expected to unfold the potent qualities and capabilities of an individual, he asked.

Joshi was speaking after inaugurating the Golden Jubilee celebration of Dharampeth MP Deo Memorial Science College here at its North Ambazari Road premices on Tuesday. Kanchan Gadkari, chairperson of the reception committee, Adv Ulhas Aurangabadkar, President of Dharampeth Education Society (DES), Ratnakar Kekatpure, Secretary of DES and former presidents and other office-bearers of the DES were present on the occasion.

Bhayyaji Joshi said that education today has become stereotype and needed to be liberated from its present status to make it a capacity building and potential developing system to get the desired results. The education system should help a students to excel in life by inculcating values, morals, and ethos, he said.

A lot of transformation of education system in India is needed if the country wanted to achieve overall success, he added.

Bhayyaji Joshi also referred to the ancient “Gurukul” system in vogue in our country till the advent of British Education system. He said that the education should inculcate wisdom in an individual so that he can utilise his knowledge for progress and constructive activities for the betterment of the society. Knowledge sans wisdom would lead to destruction, he said citing examples of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and threats by South Korean dictator.

He said that education today has become a means of getting a lucrative job and earning money in abundance without caring for the deprived sections of the society. The present education system is reduced to an information stuffing system and has lost its goal of imparting knowledge with wisdom, he said calling for striking a golden mean of the old and modern education system.
