Providing modern infrastructural facilities, India and Sri Lanka etch pact to renovate Swami Vipulananda Institute

Colombo, January 21: Fulfilling promises of development assistance, India and Sri Lanka etch a pact to provide modern infrastructural facilities to Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies, Eastern University in Batticaloa District of Sri Lanka.

 

The project involves renovation of the Auditorium and construction of a modern Building Complex with Audio & Video Recording Cum Editing Facilities and supply vehicles to Swami Vipulananda Institute in Eastern University Batticaloa through a grant of SLR 275 million from the Government of India.

The Indian High Commission said the project is part of the Government of India’s continued efforts to assist and cooperate with Government of Sri Lanka in people-oriented development projects.

The MoU was signed by Taranjit Singh Sandhu, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka and M.M.P.K. Mayadunne, Secretary, Minister of City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education and senior officials of Government of Sri Lanka.

The Indian High Commission in Colombo informed that India’s overall commitment of development assistance to Sri Lanka stands at a total of around US$ 3 billion, out of which US$ 560 million is pure grant assistance.

Strengthening camaraderie and living up to the policy of ‘Neighbours First’, India on Sunday handed over 150 newly developed houses under the Indian Housing Project to beneficiaries in Nuwara Eliya. India's collaboration with Srilankan government under Model Villages Housing Program stands at 2400 houses in 100 model villages.
