Jodhpur, January 22: Indian businessman and Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law, Robert Vadra is ordered by the Rajasthan High Court on Monday to appear before the Enforcement Directorate citing the allegations of money laundering by his firm. Vadra’s mother and his partners in Skyline Hospitality Limited are also directed to face the ED. The ED is however, scheduled to hear the case on 12th of February this year.

A Jodphur bench had earlier prevented the agency from taking any coercive action against Vadra and others. A bench of Justice PS Bhati, while asking Vadra and others to appear before the agency, however, refused to vacate the stay on their arrest and denied freedom to the ED to take them in custody.

This comes when it is four months to the Loksabha polls in country, creating hurdles in the Congress’s pathway. Justice Bhati clarified that if the need arises, the ED will have to move the court separately to seek permission for arresting them.

The ED has initiated an inquiry against the owners and partners of Skylight Hospitality Limited on a complaint of money laundering against the company. The agency had earlier received a complaint alleging involvement of Vadra in purchase of the 275 bighas of land in Bikaner's Kolayat.

The complaint alleged that the land had been purchased in the name of the driver of the mediator Mahesh Nagre using a cheque given by Robert Vadra. The primary evidence howevere in the case indicate that the Skylight Hospitality Limited was involved in money laundering.
