Security forces gun down three terrorist in a fierce encounter in Shopian

Shopian, January 22: In a yet another fierce gunfight, the security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir killed three unidentified terrorist. The encounter took place on Tuesday morning, a day after another encounter in Budgam on Monday.

 

Security forces have recovered one more body of terrorists during search operations. The area has been cordoned off. A top Hizbul Mujahideen commander is also believed to be among the terrorists. Around 4-6 terrorists were believed to be holed up in Shopian's Zainapora area and security forces engaged them in a fierce gunbattle. Forces were conducting a regular combing operation when the terrorists started firing.

On Monday, terrorists opened fire at security forces in Budgam and two of them were killed in retaliatory firing. The operation was carried out by a team comprising Rashtriya Rifles, Budgam police and CRPF officials. The area had been placed under cordon.

It was reported that around two-three terrorists had been holed up in Charari Sharief area. The security forces were conducting a regular combing operation when the terrorists started firing. There have also been reports of stone pelting by locals. Over 160 militants have been killed in Kashmir since January. A total of 250 were killed last year.
