The followers of Balasaheb celebrated the release by decorating the theatre with flowers. Many Shiv sena followers and leaders were present at the theatre showering a lot of craze and respect towards Balasaheb Thackeray during the movie.

Bal Keshav Thackeray popularly known as Balasaheb Thackeray was an Indian politician who founded the Shiv Sena, a right-wing nationalist party active mainly in the western state of Maharashtra. Balasaheb was largely known for being a cartoonist in his own political weekly “Marmik” which he started in 1960. Through Marmik, he campaigned against the growing influence of non-Marathis in Mumbai. In 1966, he formed the Shiv Sena party to advocate for the interests of Maharashtrians in Mumbai's political and professional landscape. He was known to be a great influencer with his straight forward oratory skills and for being an honest to goodness leader.

One of the most talked about films of 2019 “Thackeray”, featuring ace actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role, released today merely two days after Balasaheb’s 93rd birth anniversary was celebrated on January 23. The film has been regarded as a tribute to the late Shiv Sena leader.

The film has been written by journalist and Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut and is backed by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Carnival Motion Pictures. Along with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Amrita Rao and Sudhir Mishra are also seen in crucial roles. Amrita will be seen in the role of Bal Thackeray’s wife Meenatai.

The biopic has already started receiving positive reviews from many celebrities. “Roaring like a Tiger”, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been praised by celebrities for his peerless performance.

The makers had also started a thread of videos of influencing personalities sharing their interactions with Balasaheb under #IMetThackeray on twitter few days before the release of the film.

In this changing landscape of Indian Cinema where many biopics on political personalities are being made, the success of “Thackeray” on box office as well as on the public will surely be something to be watched for.
