New Delhi, January 8: Ending the 71 years of drought, India won the first ever Test series in Australia by emerging victorious in the first and third Tests in Adelaide and Melbourne. As a token of reward for the young champs, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced cash awards for all members of the Indian team following the historic 2-1 Test series truimph against Australia.

The BCCI has announced that the bonuses will be equivalent to the actual match-fee payable which is Rs 15 lakhs per clash for the playing X1. There will also be a bonus of Rs 7.5 lakhs and Rs 25 lakhs per match for the reserve players and coaches respectively.

The BCCI will further be handing an amount equivalent to the pro-rata salary/professional fee to the non-coaching members of the team's support staff. As a proud captain, Virat Kohli praised the efforts of the team players by winning the match. Captain Virat Kohli said that this win was the biggest achievement of his career and praised his team for sticking together and getting the job done.

“Firstly I want to say, I’ve never been more proud of a team than this one. The culture we’ve been able to build over the last 12 months. Our transition started here when I became the captain for the first time,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation at the SCG.

“Only one word to say, I’m proud. To lead these players is an honour and a privilege. They make the captain look good. Definitely deserve to enjoy this moment,” he added.

India emerged victorious in the first and third Tests in Adelaide and Melbourne while Australia registered a win in the second match in Perth. The fourth Test ended in a draw after the fifth day's play was abandoned due to inclement weather.
