Strengthening the bilateral ties: PM Modi held delegation level talks with Norwegian PM Erna Solberg

New Delhi, Jan 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held the delegation level talks with his Norwegian counterpart, Erna Solberg today.

PM Solberg is on 2-day state visit accompanied by a large business delegation and will deliver inaugural address at Raisina Dialogues. 

In the morning, Norwegian PM Erna Solberg inspects Guard of Honour during a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

 
 Today morning, External Affairs Minister of India, Sushma Swaraj called on PM Solberg. In this meeting, both leaders exchanged views on expanding ties across all sectors of development. Both sides discussed the opportunity of cooperation in Blue Economy, Shipping, Fisheries & Aquaculture, and renewable sources.
 

After meeting MEA, PM Modi welcomed PM Solberg to India ahead of delegation level talks. Both of the leaders last met at India-Nordic Summit in April 2018.

 

In the delegation level talks, both sides discussed strengthening the relationship in trade and investment, Blue Economy, Marine and Ocean resources, Climate change, SDGS, and renewable energy.

After this delegation-level talks, both PM addressed to media. In this address, the MoU between Norway and India signed and exchanged on “India-Norway Ocean Dialogue”.

 

In this joint press meet, PM Modi said, Prime Minister Solberg has made great impetus to global efforts towards attaining sustainable Development Goals. PM Solberg inaugurated new green embassy in India. Both the countries together working on Women and children health sector.

In the Ocean dialogue, both countries are working cooperatively in the fields of shipbuilding, ports and portlets development.

In this meet, PM Modi stated that Ocean economy is most important for India. 15% of India population lived in the coastal area. The cooperation in this sector will benefit the population living in coastal districts.

Further, he added, Norway is the supreme player in Ocean economy because 70% of Norwegian economy is based on ocean economy.

He expressed with confidence that, Norway and India have a strong relationship on the international level. Both the nation has a common vision in issues like UNSC reforms, Multi-lateral export control regime, and terrorism.

Norwegian PM Erna Solberg said in the joint Press meet, “The relationship of India and Norway is going in the positive direction.” She said about sustainable development goals that, the world will not achieve sustainable development goals unless India is on board.

At the end of the speech, she invited PM Narendra Modi to Norway.
