Five Judges and One most awaited decision: SC to hear appeals on Ayodhya Case from Jan 10

New Delhi, January 8: As the Ayodhya case intensifies the curiosity among people on its verdict, the Supreme Court is scheduled to take up petitions for hearing for the much awaited Ram Janmabhoomi case assigning five judge constitution bench comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, along with Justice Bobde, Justice Ramana, Justice Lalit and Justice Chandrachud on January 10.

 

A five-judge constitution bench will be headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to hear the Ayodhya case from 10 January. It was back on 4 January, a three-judge Supreme Court bench took up as many as 14 appeals filed against the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgment, delivered in four civil suits.

The Supreme Court on October 29 had fixed the matter in the first week of January before an "appropriate bench", which will decide the schedule of hearing. Later, an application was moved for according an urgent hearing by advancing the date, but the top court had refused the plea, saying it had already passed an order on October 29 relating to the hearing on the matter.

 

The apex court had rejected the appeal seeking an early hearing in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit on November, 12. SC forwarded the matter to appropriate order on January, 4 where the CJI Gogoi cited, “Further orders will be passed by an appropriate bench on January 10 for fixing the date of hearing the matter."

Allahabad High Court in 2010, divided this disputed land in Ayodhya in three parts- the Sunni Waqf Board, Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla.

The dispute is over 2.7 acres of land on which the Babri Masjid stood before it was demolished on December 6, 1992. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his interview during New Year had asserted "Let the judicial process be over. After the judicial process is over, whatever will be our responsibility as the government, we are ready to make all efforts."
