January 9, New Delhi: Haven’t we all requested this to our parents at least once in our childhood? But ever got a platform to share these incidents? No? Sports Minister Rathore’s “5MinuteAur” challenge is that platform.

Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore launched a unique initiative today as part of the Khelo India movement. Rathore, an Olympic medallist, shared a video on twitter where he was seen playing table tennis with both hands and speaking at the same time when he launched the “5MinuteAur” challenge.

Tagging Virat Kohli, Saina Nehwal, Deepika Padukone and Salman Khan to share their stories, he urged all of India's leading athletes and actors to share their childhood stories when they would ask their parents to let them play for those five extra minutes.

Rathore started the message saying, "Remember when we used to play in our childhood and that was the exact time when our parents would remind us of our homework. And, we would say 'just five more minutes’?”

"There was no one to speak for us then but now we have a voice. So why don't we all speak up for all the kids in the country and say 'let them play', five minutes more, play India. Use #5MinuteAur and #KheloIndia and share you five minutes more story”, he ended the video with this determination to encourage all the youngsters in the country for sports.

Rathore’s challenge immediately became a trend when only moments later, twitter started flooding with people posting videos narrating their childhood incidences under #5MinuteAur and #KheloIndia. The nation is applauding the unique initiative by the Sports Minister it seems.

In India, where the youth is gifted with talents for sports but are sometimes discouraged to make a living out of it due to unstable nature of the field, this unique initiative can prove to be very inspirational for the kids as well as their parents.

In 2017 also, Rathore had shared a workout video and challenged athletes and film personalities to share their regimens. Hence, it will be very interesting to see how much this challenge also encourages the youngsters towards sports.

The Khelo India Youth Games 2019 will see a host of athletes in action in Pune from Wednesday.
