95 percent will be served by this bill; voices BJP in RS over the debate citing 10% reservation for EWS

 

 

New Delhi, January 9: “95% citizens will come under the benefits of the Bill.and that the previous attempts in relation failed because they did not follow the proper Parliamentary route. Even Mandal Commission report and then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao wanted reservation for poor among general category”, argued BJP in the upper house of parliament today over the heating debate citing the 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections of the society.

 

After the bill being passed in lower house of parliament yesterday by the majority ayes of 323 out of 326 total, the bill was tabled in the Rajya Sabha. While many opposition parties had dubbed the government's move a political gimmick in the four and half hour debate yesterday, most backed the bill, which, in a first, extends reservation to upper castes.

 

“The bill stands a fair chance in Rajya Sabha. I strongly feel that the bill will be passed in the upper house. The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a Constitution Amendment Bill to grant 10 percent reservation in education and government jobs to economically-weaker individuals belonging to the general category, across religions.”, said, Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

 

 

The BJP in the Rajya Sabha kept on arguing that the bill will uplift the poor of the nation. The decision has been taken with thorough consideration. Economic quotas will pass legal hurdles, it's in the spirit of the Constitution to provide to the economically weak among the upper castes.

 

Opposing the bill, Anand Sharma of Congress urged to say, "Historic injustice, was the criterion the makers of the Constitution gave for providing caste reservation. Attempts to provide economic reservation have twice failed. The Congress agrees that economically backward among the forwards need quotas, it was already in the 2014 manifesto. This Bill is brought in haste after 5-0 drubbing in recent state elections.”

 

Further alleging the BJP that it would have never stressed over this bill if won elections in MP, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Sharma termed, “First improve the economy, generate jobs. Tendency of this govt to bypass legislative proceedings deplorable. Many big personalities of their party do not support reservation. If the government was serious on working for the welfare of weaker sections and women it should bring the Women's Reservation Bill and that the Opposition will cooperate in passing it.”

 

Meanwhile, PM Modi, who addressed a rally in Maharashtra's Solapur district, expressed a hope that the bill providing 10 per cent reservation for the poor in the general category in jobs and education will be passed in Rajya Sabha today. "The bill is a strong answer by Parliament to those spreading lies on the move," PM Modi said.
