Seaplanes knock the doors of Indian union territory almost after 121 years of it’s modelling..!

 

 

Port Blair, January 9: Andaman and Nicobar islands, surrounded by waters in all four sides will now soon be connected through seaplanes as the Ministry of Civil Aviations approved the operations on 13 water aerodrome routes. The project of operating the seaplanes have been given to Andaman Airways Private Limited and Spicejet.

 

“Amphibious planes have the ability to take off and land from places that do not have landing strips and where no runway exists. These planes can operate from sea to sea or sea to land.”, added the official statement in relation.

 

“The decision to allow sea planes has been taken following extensive survey by aviation regulator directorate general of civil aviation and Airports Authority of India. Andaman Airways Private Limited and Spicejet have shown interest in operating sea planes. We had opened the window for UDAN 3 on November 2 and financial bids were opened on January 2. Total 111 proposals have been received by 15 airlines to connect different sectors of which 13 are for water aerodromes”, said Suresh Prabhu confirming.

 

The seaplane, traditionally referred to as a ‘flying boat’, is designed with a floating hull and a centre of gravity that is calibrated to the weight and length of its water-tight fuselage. The picturesque emerald islands of Andaman and Nicobar surrounded by waters of Bay of Bengal had the privilege of launching the first commercial operation of Seaplane Services in India enhancing the tourism potential of the islands.

 

In the present picture, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration in association with Pawan Hans Helicopter limited, a Government of India Enterprise operates the Seaplane Services in the islands.
