New Delhi, Feb 11: Taking cognizance of the issue of fake phone calls regarding electoral roll updates, the Election Commission on Sunday directed Delhi Police to take stern action against such notorious elements who are spreading false information among voters.

The state election officer requested people not to get influenced by fake propaganda. He further added that electoral registration officer is the only competent body which looks after the addition or deletion of names from electoral rolls.

Earlier, a BJP delegation called on Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh and expressed concern over the alleged attempts of fake call claiming deletion of names from electoral rolls. The panel also accused Aam Aadmi party of making such phone calls ahead of the 2019 general election.

On the other hand, reacting to BJP’s complaint, AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a swipe at EC and stated that Election Commission should not function as an agent of a particular party.
