Ruling government in Punjab is all set to blow whistle to kick start electioneering campaign with 10 days budget session grounds with polling mode. 

The Punjab government’s budget 2019 has begun today. This is a third budget session of the government. Citing unfulfilled polling promises Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP MLAs walk out of the assembly.
The seven day session will conclude on February 21 and Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal will present the budget on February 18.

Governor V P Singh Badnore began the session. Says government has achieved major success in controlling crime, including busting 18 terror modules and 22 foreign networks. More than 1,400 gangsters neutralised.

He further said that, Government has created a specialised force within Punjab Police called Special Operations Group. The group is equipped with Sophie aged training to face situations like didayeen attacks, hostage situation and respond to armed militants with modern weapons.

Under karza Kurku khatam farm debt relief scheme notified in October 2017 as many as 5.83 lakh small and marginal farmers have been provided debt relief so far. The remaining 10.25 lakh farmers will be provided their due benefit under the scheme shortly. Government has paid Rs 1,00,235 crore in four previous crops as against Rs 77,984 crore paid to farmers during 2015-2016 and 2016-2017

Government has reduced the resource gap to Rs 4,175 crore in 2017-2018 and increased the revenue receipts by 23 per cent in December 2018

The central Ground Water Board has declared nearly two third of the state as dark zone. We wish that the central government takes a note of the looming water crises in Punjab and helps state in avoiding the same before state turns into a desert.

The government has started 168 outpatient opioid assisted treatment (OOAT) clinics to provide free outpatient treatment to drug addicts.

Enforcement of anti-drug abuse measures during the last two years as many as 21,049 cases registered under NDPS Act. 25,092 arrested and more than 556 kg heroin recovered.

They had left the state with an outstanding liability of Rs 13039 crore in March 2017. The state has slipped down the ladder in its ranking in per capita income from third in 2008-2009 to 10th in 2016-2017, added governor.
