New Delhi, February 13: With a staunch guarantee that the Used Cooking Oil (UCO) is converted to sustainable biodiesel, neither re-entering the food chain nor polluting the environment, Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday inaugurated a Bio-Diesel Plant of Muenzer Bharat Pvt Ltd through Video Conference. The plant will convert used cooking oil into Bio-Diesel, an innovative model of converting Waste-2-Wealth. This will further add to India's energy security & help create alternate sources of energy, said Pradhan while addressing the sea of people on screen in the capital city.

“Muenzer Bioindustry, Vienna is the largest Bio Diesel manufacturer from used cooking oil in Europe. I am happy that they have accepted my offer to invest in Indian Biofuel program. Inauguration of this Bio-Diesel plant, formally marks the entry of Muenzer Bioindustry in India”, he added expressing gratitude towards the project.
Government of India is keen on supporting such initiatives & is working to create a facilitating environment for Bio-diesels in India. Through effective implementation of RUCO (a joint initiative by FSSAI India & BDAI) India can generate close to 2 MMT of feed stock for Bio-Diesel production. “To exceed the target of EBP by 5% , feedstock availability is the greatest challenge. UCO, currently a health hazard can be a low hanging feed stock for Bio-diesel production. The Petroleum Ministry has initiated several actions & has created a new UCO control ecosystem”, Pradhan emphasised meanwhile.
“We will expand the waste management sector and create new jobs in India. Producing biodiesel from used cooking oil (UCO) will improve national energy security and the balance of payments while helping India meet its commitments to curbing carbon emissions. All of these outcomes will strengthen the economy”, said the company in its statement.
Signing off further, the Petroleum Minister said that Muenzer will bring to India the expertise built over a period of time in Europe, in establishing the entire value chain of creating energy from waste. We look forward to Muenzer for setting up several more such plants in other major cities of India, he added.
