A directive way to uplift the tribals: Tribal welfare schemes to continue

Tribal people are those who a common ancestor, a common culture, and live in their own enclosed society. Many tribal communities are completely self-sufficient. Government is always trying to support such communities who are working to secure nature. 


Cabinet approves the continuation of Centre's tribal welfare schemes. Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the continuation of sub-schemes under Umbrella programme for the development of Scheduled Tribes from the period till March 2020. Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said while briefing media after the cabinet meeting.

11,900 crores of rupees approved by CCEA for this program which is for three years. Pre-matric scholarship has been given to students whose family income limits have been increased from 2 lakh rupees to 2.5 lakh rupees. The day scholars will get increased the scholarship amount from 150 rupees to 225 rupees per month. The students who are in the hostel will get a 50% increase in their scholarship.

Finance Minister Piyush Goyal said, over 10 crores Scheduled Tribe people will benefit from it. The total layout for the programme is 11,900 crore rupees. The scheme will also promote efficiency in the delivery of service and enhance the reach of welfare schemes of government in service deficient tribal areas in the sectors such as livelihood, health, education, through efforts of Voluntary Organisations.

He said after the Bill becomes an Act, members of the communities newly-listed in the revised list will also be able to derive benefits meant for Scheduled Tribes under the existing schemes of the government.

 Bill seeks to add to the list tribes like Bhuinya, Bhuiyan, Bhuyan, Dhanwar, Dhanuhar, Dhanuwar, Nagesia, Nagasia, Kisan, Oraon, Dhanka, Dhangad, Sawar, Sawara, Saunra, Saonra and Binjhia.
