Kudos to the Chandigarh girl Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal on scripting history by becoming the first woman Flight Engineer of the Indian Air Force.

Flight Lieutenant Hina Jaiswal on Friday became the first Indian Woman Flight Engineer of the Indian Air Force. Hina completed the six-month flight engineer course from the 112 Helicopter Unit attached to the Air Force Station in Yelahanka in Bengaluru.

Hina will now be posted to a helicopter squadron where she will monitor and operate IAF’s complex aircraft in various conditions, including the Siachen Glacier and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a press release by the Defence Ministry states.

"I am enthusiastic about my stint in aviation and look forward to embracing the challenges in the service," said Hina.

Commissioned as a warrior on January 5, 2015, in the engineering branch of the Air Force, Hina served as chief of firing team and battery commander in a frontline surface-to-air missile squadron before her selection to the flight engineers' course, which she completed on Friday.

"My achievement as the first woman flight engineer is a dream come true as I had aspired from childhood to wear a soldier's uniform and take to the sky as an aviator," said the statement quoting Hina.

"A flight engineer is a member of an aircraft's flight crew who monitors and operates its complex aircraft systems requiring a specialised skill set," added the statement.
