Nation have proud on you, Indian Origin Professor Faizel appointed as director of renowned Academic Institute in South Africa

Cape Town, Feb 16: Indian Diaspora is diverse as India. Achievements of Indian in foreign lands are always a subject of appreciation and proud. India is feeling proud today for Prof. Faizel Ismail, who will take charge as the director of the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance from Prof. Alan Hirsch in July.

 

Professor Ismail played a major role in negotiations of agreement in South Africa which includes Southern African Customs Unions besides the Trade and Development Agreements with the EU.

Faizel Ismail earlier served as an ambassador to the World Trade Organization and a senior advisor of the Minister of Trade and Industry. He also chaired the International Trade and Administration Commission from 2015 to 2018 and was reappointed for a five-year term till 2023.

In this occasion, Ismail said, “ he viewed his appointment as an opportunity to contribute to rebuilding the institutions of the democratic state and the capacity of the next generation of policy makers, based on the values of the late President Nelson Mandela”.

The school has trained 1,400 students from across Africa in leadership and academic programmes since its establishment in 2011.
