Mumbai, February 25: Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange today regained the 36,000-mark, while Nifty at the National Stock Exchange reclaimed the 10,800 level. Both stocks gained around one percent amid positive cues from global stocks.

The Sensex climbed 342 points to close at 36,213, while the Nifty added 88 points to end at 10,880.

The Sensex was up 341.90 points at 36213.38, while Nifty was up 88.40 points at 10,880.10. About 1515 shares have advanced, 1072 shares declined, and 147 shares are unchanged.

TCS, Grasim Industries, Yes Bank, Infosys and UltraTech Cement were among top gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Adani Ports, Bharti Infratel, BPCL, HPCL and Zee Entertainment.

Among the sectors, except infra, energy and PSU banks all other sectoral indices ended in green led by IT index (up 2%) followed by auto, pharma, metal and FMCG.

The benchmark indices were lifted by IT and financial stocks, amid heavy foreign and domestic fund inflows.

Covering up of short positions by speculators ahead of February derivatives expiry on Thursday also added to the momentum, brokers said.

Besides, the domestic indices took cues from the global markets, which gained on US President Donald Trump's decision to delay any hike in tariff on Chinese goods, as trade talks between the two countries progressed.

Sentiments also got a lift after the GST Council at its meeting on Sunday slashed tax rates on under-construction housing properties to 5 per cent without input tax credit, from the existing 12 per cent, brokers said.

Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 6,311.01 crore, while DIIs made purchases of Rs 838.88 crore on Friday, provisional data showed
