On a successful note, India test fires Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile just hours after Surgical Strike 2.0

Bhubaneswar, February 26: Hours after the most awaited Surgical Strike 2.0 took place, India on Tuesday successfully test fired a Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) from a test range off the coast of Odisha. The missile was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in association with Bharat Electronics Limited and Bharat Dynamics Limited for the Indian Army.

 

The missile is all-weather, an all-terrain missile with electronic countermeasures against jamming by aircraft radars. The missile can be mounted on a truck and is stored in a canister. It has a range of 25-30 km. The first test firing of the missile took place on 4 June 2017. It was followed by the second successful test on 3 July 2017.

The Defence Spokesperson in a tweet congratulated DRDO for successfully test firing of indigenous QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface to Air Msls) demonstrating robust control, aerodynamics & manoeuvring capabilities. Raksha Mantri Nirmala Sitharaman conveys her appreciation to the team on achieving all main objective.

India test fired the missile, hours after the Indian Air Force conducted surgical strikes on Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror launch pads in Balakot, Chakothi and Muzaffarabad. More than 200 JeM terrorists were killed in the strikes conducted by 12 IAF's Mirage-2000 aircraft. The fighter jets dropped 1000 Kg bombs on the terror launchpads. However, Pakistan authorities claimed that no one was killed in the IAF's operation.
