India and Maldives join hands in establishing mutual cooperation in AgriBusiness and Ecosystem

New Delhi, February 7: A land of agriculture and a neighbour of great bilateral relation; India and Maldives have solidified relation of strong diplomacy. Agreeing to collaborate and take forward the relation, the two countries have given a nod to establish mutual cooperation to improve the ecosystem for agribusiness. A Joint Working Group will be constituted to prepare plans of cooperation, implement the tasks determined by the parties and to indicate the implementation of activities outlined.

 

Under the cabinet decisions taken on Wednesday, India accorded ex post facto approval to the agreement between the Agriculture Ministry and the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resource and Agriculture, Maldives. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) provides for cooperation in the fields of agriculture census, agribusiness, integrated farming system, irrigation, improved seeds, soil health management, research, capacity building of local agribusiness, enhancing knowledge of entrepreneurs in the areas of food security and nutrition, developing climate resilient agriculture system, establishing facilities to test pesticide residues.

It was signed in December last year during the State visit of President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to India.

India and Maldives share a close bond with each other and have decided mutually to establish a joint committee to look into the proceedings. All the more the joint working group will prepare plans for cooperation and implementation of task along with providing cooperation in the field of agribusiness, food security etc
