Gripped under chilling weather, J&K police evacuates 22 families from avalanche prone areas in Central Kashmir

Srinagar, February 7: The chilling weather with heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir looks beautiful like paradise but the disadvantages it brings along is unwelcoming. With heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, the state police have police evacuated 22 families from an avalanche prone area in Gund of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district to safer places.

 

In view of the heavy snowfall and apprehension of snow avalanche at Khan Mohalla in Gund in Ganderbal District, police launched an evacuation process under the supervision of SDPO Kangan Tahir Ahmad and after strenuous efforts police evacuated 22 families consisting of 124 members to safer locations. An official of the police department said that the affected families were shifted to nearby village.

Meanwhile SDM Kangan issued advisory to General Public of Kangan. Officials said that in view of inclement weather conditions and continuous snowfall, all vehicles playing on Kangan to Gagangeer and Kangan to Wangth Narnanagh and Chatergul areas should use anti-skit chain kits for travel. He further advised people not to venture out in the avalanche prone areas of the sub Division.

The police have launched a helpline service for the people as well.
