Supreme Court asks BSP Chief Mayawati to re-pay all the money spent of her statues

New Delhi, Feb 8: The Supreme Court today directed Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) National President and former UP Chief Minister Mayawati to reimburse all the public money spent on the construction of her statues and other memorial linked to BSP.

Responding to the plea filed by advocate Ravi Kant against the construction of Mayawati statues during her tenure as the Chief Minister, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi asked BSP Chief to bare all the expenses and pay-back all the amount spent on the erection of her statutes at various public places. The final hearing on this matter is scheduled on  April 2.

Filed in 2009, the petitioner-accused Mayawati of misusing taxpayers' money for the alleged attempts of self-glorification and demanded a CBI probe in the same. According to media reports, Mayawati led BSP government had poured in Rs 52.20 crore for the construction of the massive statues of her and elephant which is BSP’s party symbol.
